The SC Rebel v1 is a lightweight, plated super trainer that makes everyday miles feel fast. Best for runners who want a do-it-all shoe that excels at tempo runs, long runs, and even race day (especially for marathoners aiming 3:00–3:15+). It has a firm, snappy, rockered ride with a carbon-infused plate that urges you to pick up the pace. Not ideal for easy/recovery jogging — it wants to go. Use it for your main daily miles, key workouts, and potentially race day. Due to a snug, low-volume fit, those with wider feet should seek the wide option.

01 · The score
Built from 23 attributed opinions, weighted by creator consensus, reviewer authority, and agreement between reviewers. Recency, reach, and buzz are not score inputs. What you see here is the engine’s output, unpacked — not a second calculator. This page does not infer a score from views, recency, or the editorial stages.
Excluded from score. Freshness and attention are deliberately excluded from the score so the tier means quality, not recency or buzz. They are surfaced separately as the trending signal.

“I think that the New Balance SCRebel version one is just executing it on a higher level. They're using nicer materials. They've gotten a better result.”
“the main difference between the two is only that the SCRebel has a plastic plate where the Spectre 3 does not”

03 · The recommendation
The trace evaluates raw consensus and confidence, not the score. The real BUY_NOW condition and returned values are shown here. Price is a value note, never a gate— a strong shoe keeps its recommendation even when it isn’t on sale.
The verdict reads the RAW consensus (share of creators recommending), not the score. A shoe can therefore be tier A yet CONSIDER rather than BUY_NOW when confidence is below HIGH.
“this is the New Balance SC Rebel V1. If you want a dedicated fast session, fast training option in your lineup, this is a cracking little shoe”
“That is my long-term review of that Rebel. It has not changed since I first started running in this.”
“And then, finally, comparing it to the all-new SC Rebel version 1, the Rebel coming at 50 lb cheaper, the same stack but 4 mm drop with this one, and a little bit heavier coming at 253 g.”
“how does it compare to the all new New Balance SC Rebel version one, a shoe I really, really like?”
“there is no super trainer on the market like the SC Rebel”
“I very much enjoy the Rebel V1. So, if it were up to me and I was racing between the two, I would go with the V1 personally rather than the SC Elite V6.”
“The New Balance SC Rebel v1 is one of the best New Balance running shoes we've ever tried, with a springy, fun ride that excels at faster paces and can handle some steady daily training as well.”
“This is a brand new shoe from the guys at New Balance. This is the SC Rebel version 1. And this could be one of my favorite running shoes of the year.”
“Today, we are reviewing the New Balance SC Rebel V1.”
“I actually really like the Rebel experience. I really like the SC Elite version 6 experience.”
“Today we are going to be taking a first look at the New Balance SC Rebel”
“73 g lighter than the Pegasus Plus. much more responsive and bouncy ride. Significantly faster, so much more fun to run in. Really better in every single way.”
“One of my favorite running shoes of the year goes on sale today at sportshoes.com. Brand new New Balance SC Rebel version 1 is up there with the best of them this year. This plated super trainer features a new ATPEU foam, which is just an absolute dream to run on. This shoe is perfect because it's stable and you can cover loads of miles in it and also take it into race day.”
“I think in reality, I've been pleasantly surprised at just how well New Balance have pulled this shoe off. A genuinely good race day option for so many regular runners out there.”
“So, high level, it's coming in at about $190, and this is going to be kind of your super trainer, your workout shoe. So, it's really built for both interval training, tempos, long runs to handle kind of the demands of a big marathon training block. From a specs perspective, in a 9.5, the shoe comes in at 7.7 oz or 218 g. So, it is actually fairly light, especially when you consider a lot of brands use size nine. So, for the super trainer category, like it's on the lighter side, which I appreciate. They're really trying to save some weight. And then, you have 40 in the heel, 36 in the forefoot, 4 mm drop, which for me, I do feel like it feels like a slightly bigger drop overall. The shoe balances comfort really, really well, but one thing to kind of look out for is that it's no longer what I would call a fully accommodating or wide fit. ... Underfoot, you have an Infinit foam, and then you have a carbon infused plate, which I think it's a carbon infused nylon. And that plate sits really, really close to the ground, creating a very snappy feel while still giving it some flexibility. ... the Infinit that they're actually using in these two shoes is AT PU.”
“This has got to be one of the coolest swag bags that I've ever gotten as a running shoe reviewer. So, let's take a look at what New Balance sent me.”
“This is the new balance trainer that I have been waiting for.”
“the New Balance SC Rebel V1 is right now to me the fastest super trainer that I'm currently running in, much faster than the Topo Specter 3”
“Next up, we have the SC Rebel version 1. This actually does have a carbon composite plate, but it's actually a plastic plate. It's Pebax, which is a type of plastic. It's a brand name for polyether block amide, which you don't need to know. I'm considering this not a carbon shoe, despite the fact that there's some carbon in it, because it shares, to my feel, more qualities with a non-carbon shoe, and even with perhaps a more shank-oriented shoe than a plated feeling shoe, though it has similarities from both categories. So, the first thing is it's about as flexible as the Megablast, despite the Megablast having uh no plate at all in here. So, maybe the Megablast is slightly more flexible, especially through the forefoot, but the SC Rebel does have some give to it as well, especially for there being a plate in there. So, that's why this is on this list. It's also on this list because this is very close to being my shoe of the year.”
Consensus shrinkage raw consensus 1.000 is pulled toward the catalog prior 0.83 (strength 10) over 15 reviews → 0.932. That shrinkage is why a thinly-unanimous shoe doesn’t outrank a deeply-loved one.
Excluded Freshness and attention are deliberately excluded from the score so the tier means quality, not recency or buzz. They are surfaced separately as the trending signal.
